Preparation
Ensure the vehicle is in a safe state-for instance, parked on level ground with the parking brake fully engaged. Additionally, prepare the appropriate tools, such as a wrench.

Locate the Adjuster Arm
Within the wheel braking system, locate the manual adjuster arm; it is typically connected to components such as the brake drum and brake shoes.

Loosen the Adjuster Nut
Use a wrench to loosen the adjuster nut located on the manual adjuster arm. Be careful not to unscrew it completely; ensure it remains partially attached.

Rotate the Adjuster Arm
Adjust the brake clearance by rotating the manual adjuster arm. Generally, rotating the arm clockwise will decrease the brake clearance, while rotating it counter-clockwise will increase it. Perform the adjustment gradually, avoiding excessive rotation in a single turn.

Check Braking Performance
After rotating the arm by a certain amount, depress the brake pedal to assess whether the braking performance feels appropriate. If the brakes feel too tight, the clearance is too small and needs to be increased slightly; if the brakes feel too loose, the clearance is too large and needs to be reduced.

Repeat Adjustment Until Optimal
Continue repeating the steps above until the braking performance reaches an ideal state-specifically, when the braking force feels moderate and the vehicle brakes smoothly.

Tighten the Adjuster Nut
Once the clearance has been properly set, use the wrench to tighten the adjuster nut, thereby securing the position of the adjuster arm and preventing it from coming loose.
